Welcome to Beers by Post - craft ales, lagers and ciders from the Westcountry.

The Westcountry has many claims to fame… beautiful countryside, pretty villages, great beaches, fabulous produce. We also have some of the best small breweries in the country and we are, of course, the home of cider.

My name is Steve Post. I have worked in the Westcountry brewing trade for the past 12 years. The aim of beersbypost.com is to bring you the very best Westcountry beers and ciders from small craft breweries and cider farms - and hopefully some of my knowledge too.

I have personally visited and tested all the products (tough job, but somebody has to do it!) and have specially chosen beers and ciders that represent the best of what our area can offer, from small producers. Producers such as Burrow Hill Cider Farm in Somerset – a completely unique place that sums up Somerset cider making (visit if you can, it’s amazing). And Otter Brewery, set in a beautiful valley within the Blackdown Hills in Devon (and my favourite beer).

Mixed cases picked for you, or pick your own.

Otter Ale Mac & Cheese.

October 14, 2016

Otter Ale transforms this dish into seasonal classic. The butternut squash highlights a brilliant use of autumn produce and delivers a pleasant sweetness. The Otter Ale adds a level of bitterness and caramel malt flavours that brings the cheddar cheese alive and beautifully unites it with the butternut squash. Perfect Autumn fodder.  Ingredients 1 small to medium butternut squash – peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch cubes Half a bottle of Otter Ale 500 ml milk 3 Tbsp of butter 3 Tbsp of flour Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (essential to balance out sweetness) 500 grams of macaroni Loads of grated cheddar cheese Half as much grated Parmesan cheese 2 Tbsp breadcrumbs 1 tsp olive oil Directions Preheat oven to...

Mulled Cider

October 11, 2016

We don't need much excuse at Beersbypost.com to start mulling cider. But, if you do need a reason.......Halloween and Guy Fawkes nights are an early excuse to get the gorgeous smell of mulled cider wafting around the house. In our opinion, it's a far more superior drink to mulled wine, and much more "in season".  Ingredients 1 litre of dry or medium dry cider (bought from yours truly) A few all spice berries A few cardamon pods A few cloves 2 x Lumps of cane sugar (or more - up to you) 2 x Star anise  1 x Cinnamon stick The peel and juice of one large orange 1 x Vanilla pod (split in the usual way) A large glug...
